5 W's of the 2016 BTT Steering Committee
Who: THE COMMITTEE IS COMPRISED OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS THROUGHOUT OUR DISTRICT BOUNDARIES - NORTH, SOUTH, EAST AND WEST SECTORS OF PORT HURON AND ITS NEIGHBORING ENVIRONS. INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS SERVE AS PARENTS, BUSINESS OWNERS, NON-PROFIT LEADERS, PHSCHOOLS ADMINISTRATORS, TEACHERS, STUDENTS, SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS AND DISTRICT LEADERSHIP.
What: The committee is
developing a plan to create ideal flexible learning environments to support
student achievement now and in the future. The team will present to the Board
in November and twice to Community Engagement groups. The purpose of the group
is to engage in a rigorous process of discovery, exploration, research, and collaboration
to analyze the current state of district facilities, then determine what the
future state of those learning environments should be based on the District’s
vision. As good stewards of the community’s resources, they will determine if
the most cost-effective, highest return-on-investment options include upgrading
and/or new construction to meet this vision.
Then What: This committee’s
findings will shape the direction of what the District may require from a bond
proposal based on the Visionary Team results in 2013 (community group), the
strategic planning (district group) and cabinet strategies in 2014 and the
“Blueprint” goals established by the new Administration team in 14/15. These
all follow common themes found in instructional best practices and have Board
When: If a bond proposal is
decided as the next step, it will be on a ballot in the May 2016 election.
Where: This will affect the
environments at every building in the district. Not only will updates to
current needs be addressed, but new innovative learning environments will be
implemented and introduced in those buildings
Why: Our newest building will be 38 years old in 2016. We need to be competitive as a district with the resources, innovative technology, services and learning environments we provide to families and students. This is about improving the student experience and impacting achievement. This plan will create bright, modern, ideal environments to teach and learn.
